ISSUE 3

Networking Opportunities
Prominent members of the Summer Sourcing Show were entertained at a networking reception at the Dragon Lounge on Monday evening. The Hon Jeffrey Lam, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Fair Organising Committee, Raymond Yip, Assistant Executive Director of HKTDC and members of the Fair Organising Committee, led the guests in a toast to continued success.

The networking reception for Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer gave exhibitors and buyers a welcome opportunity to mingle with other international fashion industry players, to catch up with old friends and make new ones.

Trade Talk

Yesterday morning, overseas journalists attending the fairs had a chance to meet with some of the exhibitors and representatives of fair organiser, as well as industry leaders. This was an opportunity to exchange industry news and views from different markets.

Hear What Buyers Say
Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer
"Marisa is a department store chain at the popular end of the market with 218 outlets across Brazil. I¡¯ve come here for the first time because it is a good opportunity to find more suppliers from Asia. The fair is organised well and suppliers are well prepared with information and samples. We have made lots of contacts and the experience has been very valuable for us."
Renata Acioli, Import Manager, Marisa, Brazil

"This is my first visit - although my main interest is the Summer Sourcing Show for promotional items, I have found it very interesting to visit Fashion Week too. We have several women¡¯s brands and at Fashion Week I have found accessories such as bracelets that are very suitable as premium items. As usual with HKTDC, the location and organisation of the fairs are very good."
Alexey Anokhin, Purchasing Manager, Marketing Materials, JTI, Russia

Summer Sourcing Show

"Home Centre has a chain of around 55 stores in the Middle East and India ¡ª despite the economic slowdown we posted a 10% growth last year. This show offers an opportunity in the calendar to meet new suppliers, catch up with existing ones and understand the latest trends. I have placed orders across the board, with new and old suppliers ¡ª among the interesting products I¡¯ve seen are cutlery, laundry hampers and stationery."
Jeffrey Luke Walker, Buyer, Homewares Buying Department, Home Centre, UAE

"This show offers a last chance to make a final check with suppliers on our models for the Christmas season and to make some last-minute orders, but I am also looking to buy for next year. One of the great products I have seen is a 4D model of New York City, and I have discussed with the supplier to make a Tokyo version exclusively for Toys ¡°R¡± Us in Japan. This fair is well organised and the suppliers are of good quality."
Taka Toyama, Director, Product Development Department, Merchandise Division, Toys ¡°R¡± Us-Japan, Ltd., Japan

Hear What Exhibitors Say
Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer
"We have a total of 70 companies exhibiting their latest collections in 118 booths this time. This is a great show generating good business for us, and that¡¯s why we bring more and more companies year after year. HKTDC does an excellent job in organising and promoting the exhibition. We are particularly impressed with the meticulous service and devoted efforts to attracting buyers from different places in the world."
Liu Yan Lan, Director, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Ningbo Sub-Council, Chinese mainland

"As a Turkish company it is interesting that we have met many Turkish buyers here; we did not know so many came to Hong Kong, and now we can do business with them here. Hong Kong is a bridge between the Chinese mainland and Europe. Overseas companies like to deal with Hong Kong companies in order to reach the mainland. The organisation of the fair works well ¡ª for example, we had the opportunity to meet with overseas journalists who showed great interest in our products."
Fatih Dindar, Sales & Marketing, Ormo Yun Iplik San Ve Tic A.S., Turkey

Summer Sourcing Show

"This is an excellent platform for us to explore the Chinese mainland and overseas markets. We are very pleased with HKTDC¡¯s organisation. This year, there are quite a number of buyers from emerging markets. We are optimistic and expect to receive several million dollars-worth of orders through the exhibition for our Tales by Pave and Giimmö Magic Light products."
Tony Tseng, CEO, Artilize Worldwide Co Ltd, Taiwan

"Trade fairs organised by HKTDC are well established and international buyers have confidence in their quality and effectiveness. We are pleased with HKTDC¡¯s success in drawing visitors around the world. At this fair, we are showcasing a range of new designs including iPod speakers and calculators. Buyers have shown great interest in our products with some orders concluded already."
Yuk Wang, Sales Manager, Homade Company Limited, Hong Kong
