HK/EU & EU/HK Business Co-operation Committees

Visiting European Commissioner for Trade Pascal Lamy met high-level private sector representatives from Europe and Hong Kong who convened the third plenary meeting of the Hong Kong/European Union and European Union / Hong Kong Business Co-operation Committees in Hong Kong today (19 February 2001).

The Committees were established in 1997 with the support of the European Commission and the Hong Kong Government with the aim of promoting and expanding trade, investment and understanding between the two business communities at both government and private sector level. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council is the secretariat for the Hong Kong committee.

Total trade between the EU and Hong Kong expanded by 11.6 per cent in 2000, amounting to HK$384 billion. Some 240 EU companies have regional headquarters in Hong Kong, while a further 561 have regional offices.
