Seal Of ApprovalLabels & Badges
Labels, tags and badges have become indispensable for goods of all kinds, making them steady sellers in markets large and small They come in all shapes, sizes and colours, provide a handy guide to the product's origin, incorporate the logo or brand and are key components in the battle against counterfeiters. Little wonder that labels and badges are popular products keenly sought by manufacturers worldwide, who know that a top garment-producing centre such as Hong Kong is certain to provide the perfect tag. Pacter Mfe Ltd is one Hong Kong company that produces quality labels for "top brand names" according to spokeswoman Anita Cheung. "We started in 1989 by producing garment labels - every garment needs a label - and we've progressed from there," she says. The company prides itself on using an exhaustive range of environmentally friendly materials in the production of garment accessories such as labels, hangtags and patches. "By applying special materials and advanced techniques in label production, we produce labels and hangtags that help promote the brand," Ms Cheung claims. Pacter Mfe also produces gift items such as the wristbands and headbands that some brands like to give along with their garments. "It's a way of promoting the brand as well as rewarding the end-customer," she believes. An increasingly important feature for manufacturers of quality goods is protection through anti-counterfeit labelling. "This is one way that brands protect themselves against copying," Ms Cheung maintains. "The company registers its special brand labels, including design details, and this allows the authorities to easily identify counterfeit garments should the need arise." Tony Labels Ltd also exports worldwide says Director Tony Chen, who reveals that the company prides itself on producing labels and badges that are exclusive to each customer. "We produce mainly to customers' specifications from their designs or ideas, and have a design team that can help turn these concepts into reality," Mr Chen says, adding that the company's woven labels, badges, hangtags and printing services are mainly used in clothing, hats, shoes and gloves. Taking a slightly different approach is Hon Keung Enterprise Ltd, which not only produces heat and foil transfers but also heat transfer machines as well as providing heat-transfer processing services. "Some customers prefer to attach the labels themselves, so we also design, make and provide the machines so they can process the labels in their own premises," explains Manager Edward Cheung. "Our machines are specially made to do the job properly, and almost instantly." Hon Keung Enterprise's factory on the Chinese mainland is augmented by branch offices in Shanghai and Guangdong Province that help extend the company's geographic reach and enhance distribution to client factories in southern China. "We have renovated our equipment and facilities and developed a quality control laboratory in order to meet global demands," Mr Cheung reveals, adding that the company has also instituted a product design department. He says that Hon Keung Enterprise's products contain no toxic chemicals and meet environmental standards. "Not only are our products popular in the local market, they are also widely sold in Europe, the US, Japan and many other countries," Mr Cheung adds. The company's labels are mainly used for garments and underwear, and Mr Cheung has noticed subtle changes in the industry and its use of Hon Keung Enterprise's creations. "Over the past 3-4 years many underwear brands have been increasing their use of heat transfer methods," he notes, reasoning that they are quick and easy to apply. "They are very good for underwear too, as the labels don't scratch and aren't rough on the skin." More traditional woven and printed labels, hangtags and patches made from yarn, ink, paper and fabric are the forte of Jointak Group Ltd, which started operations in 1984 with two looms and five staff and has expanded to become an industrial group comprising more than 500 employees who work on 300 machines/production lines of various types. "Our plants are run under a computer-intensive operation system, which saves manpower from routine work, minimises human error and simultaneously provides real-time production information," Marketing Manager Charles Yeo explains. Jointak's key strengths, he believes, are the fact that individual coordinators are assigned to serve individual customers and provide instant replies to customer queries or requests. "We make woven and puff woven labels," Mr Yeo says. "The puff labels have the brand name or logo clearly displayed, and are stuffed with yarn before being attached to the garment's zipper." Jointak also produces hangtags with tape as well as decorative hangtags with epoxy. "The brand is covered by epoxy and then left to harden so that it has a raised appearance and firmly fixes the brand name or logo in place," Mr Yeo explains, adding that felt patches are also popular items. Given the huge variety of products available from these and many other suppliers, it's obvious that Hong Kong-made labels and badges will continue to receive the seal of approval from manufacturers, consumers and buyers worldwide.
